Feather Messages: the ones we take for granted
Archived Event
Feather Messages: The Ones We Took for Granted held space for intimate conversations between birds, humans, and trees. Participants were invited to gather at dawn and/or dusk to experience the transitions from darkness to light and light to darkness. The event focused on actively listening and conveying messages from the birds/bards, emphasizing desires, shining, whistling, and journeying with the more-than-human world.
This performance project continued the ongoing collaborative inquiry of Forest Vicky Kapo (Te Āti Awa, Ngāti Raukawa), who resides on Dja Dja Wurrung land in Central Victoria, and val smith (Pākehā), based at the edges of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland on Ngāti Whātua o Kaipara whenua. Since 2020, they have been exploring what it means to be transgender and migrate between lands, places, and cultural spaces. Their collaboration, involving Māori/Pākehā, Indigenous/settler-coloniser, and human/nonhuman perspectives, was critically and creatively energized by the waters and winds connecting Aotearoa and so-called Australia.
