Elliot Vaughan is a composer and performer of experimental music. He lives and works in Pōneke, following a decade freelancing in the unceded coast Salish territories of Vancouver. Two lines of investigation that run through his work are co-creative practice and the subtle or radical re-drafting of the frame of performance engagement. He seeks the inventive and the obvious..
Recent creative output includes 2019’s Fish in Pink Gelatine (an evening-length piece including a set of ‘reformed installations’ and a ‘staged concert’) and What Are The Dead To Us In Our Better Fortune? (A performed report on ‘this day in history’); 2020’s Surreal Multiverse (a chaotic evening-length concert with Tristan Carter and the Arthur Street Loft Orchestra); 2021’s Walk With Me (dance film for Threading Frames, Aotearoa) and DOCTRINE (soundtrack for choreographer Iris Lau, Hong Kong).
This November, on top of being part of PAWA, Elliot has a new piece, Futures Past, in STROMA’s Essential Experimental 2 concert, where he will also perform, and a new solo performance, First Buzzard at the Body, at Tiny Performance Festival Ōtautahi.
