Alexa Wilson is a NZ Tāmaki Makaurau-based interdisciplinary artist and curator who was recently based in Berlin 10 years. She has presented performance and video works in theatre and visual arts contexts across NZ, Europe/UK, Asia, North America, and Australia. She is artistic director of Experimental Dance Week Aotearoa. She has a BA in Women’s Studies/Film,TV and Media Studies, BPSA in Contemporary Dance, and an MPhil in Art and Design and is publishing a series of books.
Her works range from solo performance art projects, which are are often political and relational (immersive) to commissioned group choreographies, collaborations and video projects either directed or collaborative, all political, interdisciplinary and layered. Alexa’s work while inherently feminist in its underpinnings, relates to intersectional politics inclusive of different themes. She works with paradox, activation, and subversion embodying difficult and contemporary themes, where humour is often present.
