Biography

Performance Artist

Rachel is a movement artist, mama and Regenerative Practitioner utilising somatic arts and Mātauranga Māori to develop experiences and spaces of wonder and transformation. She has developed a range of creative responses to being a mama over the past nine years, combining her practices to offer participatory performances, workshops and videos that explore different aspects of motherhood. Recent work has been focussed on utilising domestic objects in mythological settings, and in particular, in relation to the story of Hineahuone, the first woman in Te Ao Māori. Rachel also teaches a range of movement and awareness practices, including Hineahuone Embodied Anatomy, Muscle and Bone, Contact Improvisation and Improvisation for Performance. She lives in Whenuapai with her two daughters and partner, where she is succeeding in growing a lot of wild cavelo nero, mustard and silverbeet amongst the grass and the buttercups. She is also developing her skills in mowing lawns and chopping wood.
