Biography

Performance Artist

Sung Hwan Bobby Park is a Los Angeles–based artist whose practice spans ceramics and multimedia sculpture. His work explores vessels as both functional forms and metaphors for living as a channel of inspiration, embracing unpredictability, gratitude, and wonder as central to creation. A key project, BTM ceramic bulletproof helmets, situates contemporary sculpture within broader art‐historical dialogues, blending material experimentation with cultural narratives rooted in Korean and global traditions to talk about the fragility of notions of identity and protection. Park holds a Bachelor of Design in Product Design from Auckland University of Technology and has trained through residencies at Auckland Studio Potters, Driving Creek Pottery, and the Tom of Finland Foundation. His exhibition history includes solo shows at Adam Art Gallery (Wellington), Tom of Finland Foundation (Los Angeles), and Objectspace (Auckland), alongside performances at the Festival of Live Arts and Auckland Museum. His work is held in collections such as the Auckland War Memorial Museum and Tom of Finland Foundation, and he has completed public and private commissions in ceramics and small sculpture for Auckland City Council and private collectors and cultural institutions. Recognized with the Arts Foundation Springboard Award (2023), finalist placement in the Portage Ceramic Awards (2023), and runner‐up in the Waikato Contemporary Art Awards (2023), Park demonstrates ambition, resilience, and a commitment to work with contemporary sculpture within global conversations.
